Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am Mum to three adult children, one of whom has severe Autism. Autism is a lifelong developmental disability affecting how a person communicates with and relates to, other people and also how they make sense of the world around them.
Life is very challenging for my son; he has no speech and extremely limited communication skills. He struggles to cope with the world around him and needs to have strict routines to help him deal with daily life. His lack of communication causes him to become frustrated and often very aggressive and destructive. He sleeps very little and has many other behavioural difficulties such as Pica, a compulsion to eat inedible objects such as batteries, pins, matches etc. This makes life equally challenging for the rest of the family.
I had a period of ill health last year as a result of this. Running and swimming definitely helped me to get back to full health and so it is fitting that I am donning my running shoes (on 18th May) and swimming hat (on 19th July) to raise much need funds for the National Autistic Society.
There is very little support available for families affected by Autism and so the service provided by the National Autistic Society is vital to families like mine. Thanks for your support.
