Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

CMT United Kingdom is the UK’s charity dedicated to supporting people living with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, the most common inherited neurological condition in the world, estimated to affect 1 in 2,500 people. They provide personal support, advice and information through a help-line, email, Regional Support Groups.

Lesley had CMT, but it was just one part of her life.  Its effects grew over time very slowly. It was a relatively mild form of the disease. It limited her significantly in later life, but for a long period of time she was just slower. Then over time the distances she could walk and the things she could do lessened. She stopped being able to thread a needle or to open jars. She started to struggle more with stairs and was increasingly only able to walk short distances. She became tired in the evenings. Despite this though, by using technology and adapting she was still able to do a great deal and live a full independent life.

Organisations like CMT UK were helpful to Lesley to connect with others with the same condition, and to learn about the latest research.
