Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

For as long as I can remember I have wanted to take some time away from work and volunteer with a charity. I have spent what seems like ages looking for the right organisation. Two years ago I met Nottingham based Mary and Graham Storrie, the co-founders of the Rosie May Foundation,  while on a yoga retreat in Sri Lanka. I was truly inspired by the incredible foundation  they had founded in 2004 which helps to give children in Sri Lanka and Nepal a future.

The Rosie May Foundation is a small charity with a big vision. It was founded in 2004 in response to overwhelming donations from the public following the brutal murder of 10-year-old Rosie May. Rosie May’s parents, founders of the charity, have turned their personal tragedy into hope for children in crisis by creating a living legacy to their beautiful daughter.

Their vision is a world where every child has a right to family and a future. They work directly on the ground in Sri Lanka and Nepal to protect children in crisis, especially girls and prevent children being torn apart from their families by poverty. Hundreds of girls have been supported. The link below will show you more

My volunteering project is in memory of my late niece Olivia Dobney who worked with children both when she was a student and in employment and she had an aspiration to help children less fortunate than herself.

I am giving up my paid employment for 2 months and also donating £100 per week to the project to go towards the sustainability of the projects I will work on in Sri Lanka. Money goes a long way in Sri Lanka so any donation you may want to give, no matter how small, to add to my contribution, would be extremely gratefully received.

The videos below give a wonderful snapshot of the huge impact the foundation has made
