Thank you for taking the time to have a look at our page!
In July, we are hoping to go out Sri Lanka for just over two weeks to help volunteer at an orphanage and school, for girls left devastated by the effects of the 2004 boxing day Tsunami.
Whilst we are there, we will provide comfort, company and education to these girls who have so little, and rely solely upon the efforts of the Rosie-May Memorial Fund. Please read on to learn more about this truly amazing cause...
The Rosie May Memorial Fund was created after the tragic death of Rosie May Storrie in December 2003. As time went by, those closest to Rosie-May, driven by her inspirational outlook on life and after witnessing the crushing Tsunami of 2004, let her legacy live on through the creation of the Rosie May home. Found in Boossa villa in the Galle district of Sri Lanka, the Rosie May home has provided shelter for young orphaned girls that fell victim to the Tsunami, since its construction in 2006.
After hearing about this awesome achievement, and the grief that lies behind the home, we both felt the need to go to Sri Lanka to see these beautiful girls and help them in their school and lovely home.
Our trip over there will give them the opportunity to experience the simple pleasures that we take for granted, but to them is something truly extraordinary. In our time at the home we will help to teach in the school which the girls attend; we shall show them how to bake, cook and be creative; but most of importantly we'll just be there to show we care.
Obviously, with a trip such as this we need to raise as much as possible for the both the charity and the trip itself. We hope that our experience will provide priceless memories for both the girls and ourselves, so please follow the link to have a look at the website and the amazing achievements of Graham and Mary; and how they managed to transform the death of their wonderful daughter into something really quite spectacular.
At least £400 of the funds raised will go directly to the Rosie May Memorial Fund, and the rest will cover cost of the excursion. (E.g. flights and accommodation)
From now until June/July we shall be taking part in numerous fundraising activities so please be as generous as possible, and we shall hope to keep you updated with all of our progress.
Thank you so much for all your help and support,
Helen & Amy Chesworth :o)
