Story

A few facts regarding Melanoma...

Melanoma is the most serious form of skin cancer. It accounts for more deaths than all other forms of skin cancer combined. It is currently the UK’s fastest growing form of cancer. It is becoming more and more prevalent in the UK, where it is the 6th most common cancer. The most common sign of skin cancer is a new mole or change in an existing mole, although it can also originate in the eyes, mucus or under layer of skin which are much more difficult to spot. If caught early enough early stage melanoma is usually treated easily, typically by removal of a mole. However, if it is not diagnosed until an advanced stage it is a very difficult cancer to effectively treat. Most current treatments for advanced melanoma slow down the spread of the cancer or reduce the symptoms, rather than providing a cure.

So with the above in mind, a stage 4 diagnosis of advanced Melanoma of a close family member is the last thing anyone would wish for but unfortunately what my family faced in May this year.

Down to the research already funded by these amazing charities, treatments for advanced Melanoma are making incredible differences to the patients and families lives and people who were given 6 months to live are now living 6 years! But with no current cure it is more important that ever to raise more funding for research to give people affected more time.

Thanks for reading and ANY donation will be hugely appreciated and make such and impact to my families future xx
