Shetland is a beautiful place, it is wild, fierce and free. We call it 'da rock' because it's lashed by the Atlantic, the wind and the North Sea but lights still twinkle, fires burn and people laugh all winter. Island life can be hard though, especially if you need help. The staff at Shetland Women's Aid work incredibly hard to make it possible for women and children to seek refuge from the violence that is so often hidden around the edges. The help they give follows families for the whole of the rest of their lives. It saves lives too. 

My children and I have everything we need so the best possible birthday gift would be a donation to this brilliant charity to help mums and kids in Shetland when they need it most.
