Headstart4Babies is a small charity raising awareness of plagiocephaly and brachycephaly, two little-known skull conditions which can affect young babies. It also provides help and advice to families face with the condition and raises money to assist families on low incomes to proceed with treatment.

Story

THANK YOU ALL!!

There are no words to explain how grateful we are for the support we recieved for Henry. He was discharged from treatment at LOC London in December 2011 and finished physiotherapy early 2012.

Without the donation from The East Coast Truckers and all our family friends and neighbours it wouldnt have been possible. Please continue to donate to Headstart4babies any money raised over our total goes straight to help other families who arent as fortunate as we are.

THANK YOU

Our 3 month old baby boy Henry has been diagnosed with Plagiocephaly and Torticollis.

Plagiocephaly (also known as "Flathead Syndrome") is a condition characterized by a flattening on one side of the back of the head, it also involves bulging of the forehead, fullness of the cheek and ear misalignments. Torticollis is a condition in which a shortened muscle in one side of Henry's neck causes him to tilt his head and turn it to his right side. The tightening causes him to always rest his head in the same position creating continual external pressure to one side of the back of the head resulting in plagiocephaly.

Some studies have found that if untreated, plagiocephaly can lead to permanent deformation of the skull. If severe enough, this type of deformation can impact facial asymmetry, and can lead to problems including speech and vision issues. Perhaps most devastating are the self-esteem issues that may face Henry when he goes to school and is faced with bullies.

Treatment for Plagiocephaly is currently not available on the NHS in England. We are trying to raise money to fund Cranial Remolding Therapy in London. This means using a non-invasive helmet which is tailor-made to Henry’s exact head shape and is worn for 23 hours a day.  The helmet works by applying a gentle constant pressure over the areas of Henry’s skull which are most prominent while allowing unrestricted growth over the flattened areas; this will allow Henry’s head to grow into a more symmetrical shape.

Please donate if you can or come to one of our fundraising events. We are currently planning a BBQ for 28th August TBC.

Anything we raise over Henrys Treatment cost will be donated to Headstart4babies to help other families like us.

Thank you all so much, Kelly and Aaron Saddleton x
