Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Initially I was not going to do this cycle ride for charity but so many friends have asked which charity I am raising money for that I have now decided to set up a Just Giving Page.

Many of you will know that my dear friend Tania who sadly passed away in December 2018 became a Buddhist and found great comfort in her beliefs and from Emma Slade a Buddhist Nun. Tania never feared death and her courage and sense of humour touched us all.

It was Tania that brought me "George" the gravel bike in order that I could take on this adventure.  So for me it seems fitting to raise money for Opening Your Heart To Bhutan a charity which is run by Emma in the UK and which brings children with special needs in Bhutan joy and the opportunity to build meaningful lives.

Through simple, practical acts of compassion, the charity provides access to safe medical care, disability aids and basic amenities in the isolated rural areas of East Bhutan. It believes in education as a means of empowerment and supports the digging of sewage systems, building of hostels and improvement of facilities at Draktsho, a vocational training centre in Tashigang.

No one is paid to run the charity, and costs are kept to a bare minimum to maximise funds going directly to those most in need.

Today would of been Tania's 52nd Birthday and the reason I have chosen today to set up my page.

About the charity

Opening your Heart to Bhutan, the inspiring brainchild of Bhutan-ordained British Buddhist nun Ani Pema Deki, works tirelessly to improve conditions and life opportunities for impoverished young people in rural Bhutan. They work closely with local highly regulated charities and all money raised goes directly to those in their care.
