We work with worldwide partners to improve education and livelihood chances

Story

August 2016 – Rio.
February 2017 – the Himalayas.

In February hundreds of school children from across the Helambu region of Nepal will come together to compete in the Himalayan Games. But they need your help.

We are asking you to sponsor a child to attend the Games for £20/Rs.2,500/USD25.

Why bring the Games to the Himalayas?

Nepal is still reeling from the aftermath of the earthquake that shook the country to its core in April last year. The Helambu region was badly affected, suffering severe damage to infrastructure and many deaths. Many children in the region are struggling to cope – let alone access the education they deserve.

For children whose world views are too-often limited to their villages, the Games offers a chance to travel, to compete, and to broaden their horizons. More than that, the Games will allow children whose lives have been scarred by the earthquake to get back to being children.

The Helambu Education and Livelihood Partnership (HELP) runs programmes and builds schools across the Helambu region. In 2012 and 2014 they ran the Himalayan Games, which were a resounding success – you can read more about them here [http://www.help-nepal.org/web/welcome/himalayan_olympix].

Since 2015 their resources have been focused on reconstruction and regeneration following the earthquake – but they have seen the power of the Games and are determined to make 2017 the biggest and best year yet.

That’s where you come in

We are asking you to sponsor a child – an athlete – to attend the Games. £20/Rs.2,500/USD25 will pay for one student to attend the games. This will cover transport, food, accommodation, medical support, games equipment and a Himalayan Games tracksuit. The Games are all-inclusive so that no child is excluded because of their family’s financial situation.

As a sponsor, you will receive photos and news from the games and a report from your partner student – including a medal table – so that you feel part of the action.

If you want to support the Games but are not able to give £20 any amount is enormously appreciated.
