A small but perfectly formed team, Marvyn and Dolly Lund, and Nancy and Buddy Abbott/Roberts, aka The Holgate Hounds, have joined together to raise money for Greyhound Gap by participating in the Great British Greyhound Walk 2012 in York with their owners.

As well as doing the walk, the gang of hounds will be taking part in fund raising events after the walk, all to raise money for their favourite charity, Greyhound Gap.

Greyhound Gap is a small independent charity set up to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome greyhounds and lurchers who find themselves in a ‘put to sleep’ situation in UK pounds.  Funded almost entirely by donations, they rehome around 150 dogs each year.  Greyhound Gap operates on a national basis so their dogs can be homed in most areas throughout the UK.

Greyhound Gap are totally self funded and work extremely hard to raise the necessary monies to continue helping these wonderful hounds.   Every single penny really does help!

The charity is particularly close to all of our hearts because Buddy (far left on the photo), began his journey to his forever sofa with Greyhound Gap, who rescued him from death in a dog pound after he had been picked up as a stray dog in Birminham. Greyhound Gap gave him a chance for a better life by placing him in foster care in Derbshire with foster mum Helen and foster sister Letty. After a year with Helen during which he grew in confidence, by a combination of luck and circumstance and a huge dollop of help from Greyhound Gap, he found his way to York and his rightful place with Tina, Steve and Nancy.

Greyhound Gap is close to the hearts of Dolly and Marvyn, as it has given them chance to get to know their foster sister Babe. Babe came to York as a foster dog for Jane and David, in the hope that she would find a loving home soon. Unfortunately they have discovered that Babe is quite ill with a serious condition known as chylothorax. Tests are ongoing to establish the cause of this illness. Greyhound Gap fund expenses such as our lovely Babe's vet's bills, which might well be needed on an ongoing basis. Not only therefore do Greyhound Gap save hundreds of greyhounds and lurchers from being put to sleep, but they fund the ongoing care and necessary treatment for dogs in their care, throughout their lives.
