Story

Welcome to Holli's JustGiving page, raising money for Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham - Critical Area D.

On January 3rd 2015 I was admitted to Critical Care Area D for a condition of Myocarditis (Inflammation and damage to the heart muscle). After 2 hrs of arrival I Cardiac arrested and with quick thinking from the team they saved my life by giving CPR for 45 minutes, whilst the surgeon operated to fit an ECMO (Extracorporal Membrane Oxygenation).

The following day I was back into theatre to have the ECMO removed and a Bi-VAD (Ventricular Assit Device) fitted on both Ventricles.

Being a new mum with a 3 month old son this was very distressing.

On the 10th day on the Bi-VAD I was told i may need a heart transplant as the heart was not recovering. The transplant team came to discuss the procedure and details of what would happen. I could not believe this was happening.....

My husband then asked the staff in Critical Care if he could bring my son (Jordan) into Critical Care to visit me.  As the staff knew I had Jordan visiting, they moved me into a side room for more privacy. Jordan slept with me for 3 hours and on that night my heart started to recover.

After this the staff allowed my son to visit more often.

1 month on I am out of Critical Care and I am sitting in the ward typing this page.....I have had the bi-vad removed and I have my own heart functioning again.

Without the support and understanding of the Staff, Doctors, Profusionists and Practitioners of Critical Area D, whom I would like to call 'The Team', I would not be here today.

I can actually say they have saved my life and given my son Jordan his mum back.

Throughout my journey 'The Team' have supported me and gone above and beyond to help me fight this Myocarditis.

I could never repay them for what they have done for me, so as a start I would like to raise some funds for 'The Team', so they can carry on with what they do best.

During my stay in Critical Care I have persuaded the Staff, Doctors, Profusionists and Practitioners to join in the run, so please friends and family give them your full support, as I have found out in the last month how much we rely on you.

Therefore, please dig deep and help us to raise money specifically for Critical Care D to fund for :

Portable Treadmill - Especially built for patients to use within the Critical Care Area.

Electric seat -  Allowing patients to be more mobile.

The plan is to auction some prizes on the day, if anyone has any prizes that they would like to donate, it would be greatly received and it would go to a good cause.

Thank you everyone and please dig deep!
