I have stupidly agreed to do a charity bike ride, Paris to London, 240 miles in 3 days. Seeing as I haven't riden a bike for about 12 years, it's a fantastic way to challenge myself, along with raising some much needed pennies for a fantastic charity.

                                                                                            THE FACTS:

CARE International is one of the world’s top three aid agencies, fighting poverty and injustice in over 70 countries around the world and helping 65 million people each year to find routes out of poverty.

The funds raised for this particular event are going towards the 'Fundraising for Morocco' project. The project, in a nutshell:

                                                    Improve living conditions of the most underprivileged populations

                                                         Education/Literacy teaching for children and mothers

                                                               Revenue generating activities for mothers

                                                                           2-year project (2009-2011)

                                                         Reach a total of 1,625 people, including 425 children

 

                                                                           The 3 Project objectives:

                        Target early childhood education by supporting 9 non-formal education pre-schools

                     Support 3 parents associations and set-up 3 after-school classes for year 10 and year 11

 Support 200 women through literacy education and raise awareness about the development of small businesses

 

                                    Your donations will contribute to improve the learning environment,

A £22 donation = 2 blackboards / magnetic board

A £31 donation = 12 paints’ box + 2 paint brushes + 1 apron + drawing papers

A £44 donation = 3 dictionaries + 3 posters + writing papers + felt tips and highlighters for 3 children

A £80 donation = 1 tape recorder to learn French

A £160 donation = 1 photocopy machine

The above amounts are just a rough idea of what can be brought to the less fortunate areas if everybody was to make a small, managable donation.

I understand there are alot of charities out there, and you may wonder why this is the chosen charity for the event. The truth is, all charities have the same aim - to raise money for much needed projects, not just in the UK, but all over the world, in hope that they provide better living conditions for every single person that charity aims to help.

No donation is too large or small, and all funds raised, I am sure you agree, will be going towards an amazing charity.
