Holst way run in two days · 1 October 2016

The Holst Birthplace Trust seeks to advance the education of the public and encourage the art of music. We do this through the maintenance, promotion and continuing development of Holst Victorian House a museum and period home where composer Gustav Holst was born. Visitors to Holst Victorian House can hear stories of its eclectic residents, experience a working Victorian kitchen and scullery, and delight in authentic Victorian interiors above stairs. They can also discover the life and times of Holst and view many of his possessions, including a piano on which he composed The Planets.

Story

The 35-mile long Gustav Holst Way starts at St James the Great, Cranham, where Holst's mother played the harmonium, and ends at St Laurence's Church, Wyck Rissington, where his professional music career began. In between it passes through beautiful Cotswold countryside via many places significant in the composer's life, up and down paths he may well have trod. He is supposed sometimes to have practised the trombone as he walked.

I am going to run the Gustav Holst way in two sections - from Cranham to Winchcombe, and from Winchcombe to Wyck Rissington, over the weekend of 1st October. I will not be carrying a trombone.

The Holst Birthplace Museum http://holstmuseum.org.uk/  suffered an ingress of water during torrential downpours in June 2016. This caused severe damage to three of the Museum’s period room settings and damage to another. There was also water damage to a small part of the collection which has been removed for conservation. During this period, the Museum remains closed for drying out, repairs and conservation.

Although much of the refurbishment is covered by insurance, they need to fundraise an additional £30,000, for repairs and costs not covered by insurance.
