We’re here to help older people in developing countries by reducing poverty, improving health, protecting rights and responding to emergencies. Age International is a restricted fund of Age UK, set up to support the work of Age International, Age UK’s charitable subsidiary.

Story

The Homecare Association is committed to supporting older and disabled people in Ukraine, donating some of the surplus from sales of our events (such as our Conference) and publications. We encourage our members to donate towards Age International's humanitarian work in the region. #UkraineHumanitarianAppeal

The recent conflict in Ukraine has forced millions of people to flee their homes in search of safety. For the older people left behind, the situation is particularly dangerous. Time is critical, and we must act fast to save as many lives as possible.

"The shelling is what worries me the most. What if they hit the house, and blast the windows, roof, doors out? Who will help me?"  Ekaterina, 70

Age International in Ukraine

We are uniquely placed to deliver an emergency response to this crisis. Over recent years, Age International has been working in Ukraine to support older people affected by the conflict in 2014 with life-saving essentials such as food medicines and mental health support.

Currently, we have over 200 staff and volunteers from local communities working in Ukraine, mostly in the east of the country. To date, this team has been providing ongoing support to almost 5,000 older people in the region. Our most pressing priority at this time is to keep our staff and volunteers safe, despite living under constant fire during the current conflict themselves.

Age International helps older people, living in some of the world's poorest places, to have improved wellbeing and be treated with dignity. As the international arm of Age UK, our history stretches back to the 1960s, our work includes saving lives in emergencies, supporting older people to fight for their rights and help them live a healthier life and gain their independence at home. Currently, we are helping to protect older people in India from a deadly second wave of COVID-19 - more info here https://www.ageinternational.org.uk/
