Thanks for visiting BirdLife International's Hooded Grebe Appeal page and helping us save this stunning Patagonian species from extinction.

Our national Partner Aves Argentinas acts as official BirdLife Species Guardian for Hooded Grebe - working closely with a number of other Argentinian organisations implementing a new species action plan. There's a great deal to be done, in limited time, while the chance to make a difference remains.

Every donation made will fund urgently required conservation like direct action to remove threats on their breeding grounds, satellite tracking that will protect birds during their migrations and advocacy to influence government officials, local communities and land owners to protect these birds and the remote habitat they live in.

Your support is vital to this work and will make a real difference to its success. So please, dig deep, donate now and help us prevent another tragic extinction.

Just last year a sinister new threat emerged. Invasive American Mink were found to have reached the Hooded Grebe's remote Patagonian breeding grounds and researchers discovered they had wiped out an entire breeding colony by slaughtering more than thirty breeding adults and destroying 40 eggs in one attack. You can see a picture of two of the birds killed at the scene in the photo gallery below.

Tackling threats like this are difficult but our experience shows they can be succesful with the right resources and individuals like you you can make an enormous difference.

You can watch a video of breeding Hooded Grebes shot by our conservation field team earlier this month by clicking the video image in the gallery below.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to us and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.

Please make sure you add your email details so we can keep you informed about the conservation action we are undertaking.
