Butterfly Foundation is a national organisation offering support for all people affected by an eating disorder and body image concerns. Along with our support services, such as the National ED HOPE Helpline, an Intensive Outpatient Program, an adolescent day program and regular support groups, we also run education programs across the country for young people, parents and professionals on building positive body image and self-esteem. As well as being a leading national voice in supporting those impacted by eating disorders, Butterfly highlights the realities of seeking treatment for recovery, and advocates for improved services from both government and independent sources. Butterfly is dedicated to changing the culture, policy and practice in the prevention and treatment of eating disorders and to raising awareness of eating disorders as a serious social, medical and mental health issue. You can help invest in a positive future for so many. Please support Butterfly's services TODAY. YOU are part of the solution! Thank You.

Story

Butterfly Foundation is the national charity for Australians impacted by eating disorders and body image issues, and for the families, friends and communities who support them.

The foundation is close to my heart as these past twelve months I have struggled with the devastating disease Anorexia Nervosa. It is not something I ever imagined would be apart of my story but fortunately I am in the position where I have an amazing support network and access to Health Professionals who specialise in eating disorders, but not every sufferer is as lucky. Over 1 million Australians are estimated to have an eating disorder, but less than 25% access specialised treatment. Anorexia nervosa has the highest mortality rate of any psychiatric disorder which is why early intervention is so important for hope of a full recovery.

For my birthday this year in the hope of raising awareness, supporting sufferers and their loved ones, and changing the lives of those suffering from an eating disorder I have asked my family to donate to #thebutterflyeffect instead of receiving gifts for myself.

2020 has been a challenging year and I understand our pockets may not be carrying any loose change. If you are in the position to, any contribution no matter how big or small will help provide effective and affordable treatment for sufferers along with support services for their carers. If not I ask you help raise awareness by informing yourself about eating disorders and body image issues - https://butterfly.org.au and/or by sharing this post to spread the word.

If we can prevent even just one person avoid the suffering endured by an eating disorder I will forever remember my 26th birthday present as the greatest gift received.
