Peak District Challenge 2019 · 13 July 2019 to 14 July 2019 ·

Anyone can get Parkinson’s. It gets worse over time and there’s no cure. Yet. Funding research into the most promising treatments, we’re getting closer to a cure. Until then, we're improving life for people with Parkinson’s, and the people in their lives. Together we'll find a cure.

Story

Laura Howard, Sophie Howard, Kes Crockett and James Ruffle are taking part in the Peak District challenge in July as a family to try and raise awareness and funds for Parkinson’s UK.

Parkinson's is what happens when brain cells that produce dopamine start to die. There is no cure. Yet.

Laura and Sophie’s dad, John Howard, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s four years ago and we are all walking to do our small bit towards finding a cure and helping make the quality of life of those diagnosed with Parkinson’s better.  It has been so difficult seeing our dad become ill since being diagnosed and we want to do what we can against this horrible disease.

people every hour are diagnosed with Parkinson's.  Parkinson's is a progressive neurological condition. This means that it causes problems in the brain and gets worse over time.

The number of people diagnosed with Parkinson's in the UK is about 145,000. That's around 1 adult in every 350.

There are 3 main symptoms - tremor (shaking), slowness of movement and rigidity (muscle stiffness) - but there are many other symptoms too.

It would mean ever so much if you could please donate - we are grateful for any amount you can spare.

Wish us luck!

Laura, Sophie, Kes and James
