The A4D Sea to Summit Challenge 2018 · 25 August 2018 to 26 August 2018 ·
We are a team of five and on 25 August 2018 we will be taking on the Sea2Summit Challenge. This will involve us cycling from Nice on the south coast of France through the Southern Alps to the base of the highest mountain in Southern France - a bike ride of 230 km with 6,350 m of height gain. After a big bowl of pasta, we'll swap road bikes for axes and crampons, and climb on foot through the night to the summit of the Barre des Ecrins (4,102 m). The climb to the summit is 11 km with 2,200 m of height gain. And we aim to do all of this entire sea to summit journey within 24 hours - quite a challenge.
We are doing this to raise money for the charity Action4Diabetics (A4D). This successful charity, established in 2015, is already supporting more than 350 children with Type 1 Diabetes in Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Myanmar and Thailand. The charity supports children in a number of ways, including giving them free insulin and test strips, and organising educational camps, personal development courses and scholarship programs. The need is great - we are committed to supplying insulin, without which the children will simply die. Our team includes Jerry Gore, co-founder of A4D and internationally renowned mountaineer.
Personally, this is a huge challenge for me - I expect it to be the hardest physical challenge I have faced. But I have been training and am motivated to my absolute best. We have a great team, and I know we will all work well together to make the challenge a success.
Please give what you can - even a couple of £1s would mean everything, because it shows that there are others that care and every little bit will contribute towards saving young lives.
