Story
I am soon about to graduate from Uni and have had this idea to do a charity fundraising scheme for an effective environmental action group for some time. It feels like the right time to do this since I will be able to dedicate more time towards this and also, as I'm sure you know, the current environment and climate is a pressing concern!
The protection and conservation of the environment is something I have always been extremely passionate about. Both my parents were country rangers when they met, Growing up I learned all about John Muir, the famous conservationist, from my Mum. I was instilled with the knowledge that nature is to be enjoyed, but also cared for. This stayed with me all the way to Uni where I have studied Physical Geography at Aberdeen with the hopes to follow in my parents footsteps in caring for our planet.
I am sure you are aware of the extreme pressures that humans are putting on the planet. From excessive material waste that ends up in our oceans to the heating of our climate, jeopardising our future.
The fate of the future has never been more in our hands, the actions over the next few decades are of the upmost importance. Raising awareness is good, but pulling up your sleeves and doing something about it is amazing. Although this can be discouraging, as Governments and large industries hold the power, so what can we as
individuals do?
Friends of the Earth have spent over 40 years protecting the planet. They have won new laws to protect our water, wildlife, landscapes, climate and health. Together, with Friends of the Earth, our voice is louder, our actions more significant, our impact greater. Together, we are determined to change the world for good, for everyone.
I want to raise money, but in my own special and unique way, using my talents as a somersault enthusiast (If you have seen my Instagram you know what I'm talking about!). I will be completing a full mile covering the distance by performing flips, no walking allowed! The full mile will be filmed and posted for all of you to see! So if you want to.... please donate!
The Flippin Mile has been COMPLETED!
