Story
JIA is an autoimmune disorder where the immune system, which usually fights infection, is triggered to attack the synovium (joint lining) causing arthritis.
Our daughter Dororthy was diagnosed with juvenile arthritis in 2018, which was a challenging time for us all. Over a few weeks she went from a healthy child to not being able to walk at all. A lot of the hurdles we faced were because its a lesser known condition, only affecting around 12000 children in the Uk. The CCAA (Childrens Chronic Arthritis Association) offer support and advice to families going through diagnosis and treatment, and eventually helping them move into adulthood.
A large part of treatment involves supressing the immune system, and through these difficult times of the pandemic, the CCAA has been there to advise and reassure all families with immune supressed children.
After we were helped by the charity I thought I would help with one of their biggest struggles, fundraising.
