Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving

The walk I intend to do is just over 500 miles long, and starts at St Jean Pied de Port in SW France, crosses over the Pyrenees and then through northern Spain ending at the cathedral of Santiago de Compostella in NW Spain. This particular route is known as the Camino Francais, and has been used for over 1000 years by Pilgrims making their way from the UK and Europe to Santiago. I intend to start walking on 8th May and am hoping to complete the "tab" by the 12 June. Each days walk will be an average of 14 miles or thereabouts, some of it over hilly or mountainous terrain. Night time accommodation will be in Pilgrim Hostels which tend to be quite basic. I shall be carrying all that I require for the complete route, and the plan will be to carry no more than 10 to 15 Kilos, so careful pre planning and packing is required.
Though born in Wales, I now live in a rural area of Northern Ireland and am a retired Army Officer having spent most of my working life in the Service. I shall be 69 when I do the walk, and will of course be doing some "work up" training before I set off. My main interests are History, Ocean Sailing, Wildlife, Photography, Clay target shooting, and of course Dogs. We have five rescue dogs, a White GSD, three BCs and a Glen of Imal Terrier. The Terrier (misnamed Daisy!) and one of the BCs (Jack) came from DT Ballymena. We also had a third rescue dog from Dogs Trust Ballymena (Husky/GSD X) called Tara, who died as the result of a million to one freak accident last December. She was a terrific character, of whom I was more than a little fond, and in many ways this walk will be in memory of her.
