Last year some of the team at Higos Insurance Services took part in Movember, raising over £700 for men’s health charities.

Once the fundraising was completed I was approached by one of my staff to ask if I would like to take part in Movember 2014.  I set them a challenge (my beard has a price!) so I said if they can raise £3,000 I would consider it.

Well...after a series of mufti days, quizzes, bake-offs, sky dives, other fundraising events and generous donations from my colleagues and those in the insurance community, I am proud to confirm my staff reached their target of £3,000.  In turn, they have challenged me to match their £3,000 so, if my beloved beard is to come off, it will have raised £6,000 for the Movember charities.

Here’s a little history about my beard.  My top lip has never seen the light of day since the moustache first started to grow.  This then developed into my beard, which has been in place for the last 36 years, since I was 18 years old. 

This is a really big deal for me.  Close members of my family – including Claire, Adam and Lance - have never seen me without a beard.  Many of my friends have never seen me without a beard.  All of my staff at Higos have never seen me without a beard.  So, if you are able to donate towards these wonderful charities I would be very grateful and my face will see the light of day for the first time since 1978! 

The plan is for me to have a shave in work from a professional ‘cut throat’ barber at the end of October, with me then joining in with Movember and growing my beard and moustache throughout November.  Regular updates will appear online via this page and also via the Higos Twitter page @higosinsurance
