At Young Lives vs Cancer, we help families find the strength to face whatever cancer throws at them. But every day 12 more children and young people hear the devastating news they have cancer. We’ll face it all together – but we can’t do it without you. Visit www.younglivesvscancer.org.uk

Story

Hi
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In October 2010 I will be trekking the Inca trail to Machu Picchu in Peru along with 5 friends to raise money for the following charities, CLIC Sargent, Diabetes UK and Friends of the Beatson. It's a four day hike through mountainous terrain at high altitudes, which will provide a real challenge to all of us. Training is going well and hopefully we'll all make it to our destination and back in one piece!

I have chosen CLIC Sargent as my main charity, CLIC Sargent is the only charity that offers families of children with cancer all round care and support.

All of these charities have a special significance in our lives. Personally I had a young cousin who passed away in his teens from cancer and I also lost a close friend to complications of diabetes. Lately my fiancée's Godfather has been battling cancer and has had great support from the Beatson.

I am sure you will all agree that these are three very worthy charities. We have been fund-raising throughout the year and are really hoping to smash our target. So far through the generosity of friends and family at our events we are on our way to achieving this.

Any amount you are able to donate will be very worthwhile. £20 could pay for a CLIC Sargent Play Specialist to help a child prepare for and cope with treatments, by using models, toys and photos to explain what will happen. £50 means that a CLIC Sargent Social Worker can be there soon after diagnosis, talking to a family one-to-one. Or £100 means a young person who has (or had) cancer or leukaemia can go on an activity weekend.
