Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Having just been given the go ahead by the prime minister to have as much daily exercise as I want......  whilst being alert, I’m delighted that I now have the opportunity to replicate an activity I am lucky enough to enjoy each year, which is to walk all or part of one of our national trails. Of course, I will have to adapt my trek to fit into the current restrictions caused by the Covid 19 pandemic. Regrettably I won’t be able to walk with my trusted companions anywhere in the country, neither will I be staying in B and Bs at the end of each days walking nor eating and drinking in local pubs.

But, on 25th May starting from my home in New Mills in the High Peak I intend to walk 100 miles safely and mainly on my own in a week, completing a different circular walk each day. This will be a test for me. I have walked many week long treks over the years but never achieved so many miles in seven days and I thought it would be good to follow on from the many inspirational people who do similar activities and do my trail as a sponsored event for charity

The charity I would like you to sponsor me for is the Wellspring in Stockport, www.thewellspring.co.uk . It was set up in 1991 in Stockport to help  homeless and disadvantaged people. I worked with it in my days as a probation officer in the 90s and my son has volunteered there much more recently. It is a brilliant organisation and in much need of financial help especially in the current circumstances of the Covid-19 pandemic.

£365 will fund the running of the whole project for a day, £100
pays for a hot nutritious meal to 150 homeless and disadvantaged people and £15 provides a homeless person with 1 hour of intensive support

I will be attempting to link this page into my strava app on
my phone so you can check on my progress during the week. I also intend to update this page with daily reports and photos providing I’m in a fit state to do so.
