It has been 3 years since my last charity trek which took me to Iceland. This time I have chosen to complete a charity trek through ‘Little Tibet’ in the Himalayas for the Francis Terry Foundation. During the 14 day trek I will ventures high into the Himalayas through terrain which changes from incredibly narrow valleys to wide-open vast expanses. It will be made all the more interesting by seeing the many monasteries that dot the landscape and the ancient form of Buddhism that has flourished for centuries in this region. The trek starts in Leh (‘Little Tibet’ as it is known) at 3200m where I will have a couple of day to acclimatise and visit a children’s home project in Ladakh which helps less fortunate children with their education. Thereafter I will be trekking approximately 15 km a day through remote valleys and high passes in the rarefied atmosphere of the Himalayas climbing to 4800m and camping along the route.
The Francis Terry Foundation was named after Francis John Terry who founded Northwood Preparatory School in 1910. It exists to provide for educational projects at home and abroad. The Foundation has already ensured long term support for projects in Africa, Eastern Europe and in this country. At the moment it Supports SOS Bosnia which has funded the building of a Kindergarten in Tropicana where it has funded the apparatus for the playground. It supports the Bujagali Trust in Uganda where it ensures that a class of children receive an education and it also give a donation to help feed the children lunch. In this county it supports St Peter’s school in Rickmansworth with funding for Science, Music, Sport and Drama tuition. Recently it has started working to improve the life of children in a South African Township called Kayamandi. These children are subject to poverty, poor educational opportunities, illiterate parents, absent father figures and hunger and malnutrition as a result of aids and tuberculosis.
Please support both myself and the Francis Terry Foundation so it can continue to fund worthwhile educational projects around the world. Thank you.
