When life gets tough or it feels like there's nowhere to turn, Barnardo's is here. We make sure children and young people feel safer, happier and more hopeful by directly supporting them with specialist services across the UK. We have been changing childhoods and changing lives for over 150 years.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!

I'm running my first ever marathon in London in April 2015 to support the inspirational work of Barnardo's Children's Charity, who believe in children, regardless of their circumstances, gender, race, disability or behaviour. Their purpose as a charity is to transform the lives of the UK's most vulnerable children, believing in the abused, the most vulnerable, the forgotten and the neglected, helping to support them, stand up for them and bring the best out in every child.

RUFUS RAFFLE!

My rather helpful pal, Rufus the Hawk, (@RufusTheHawk) is helping raise the much-needed funds for both my marathon fund for Barnardo's, and my sister Avena's, who is running for the Samaritans. Rufus is hosting a 'Rufus Raffle' with support from great companies and individuals who have donated some incredible prizes. Each donation will buy you one virtual raffle ticket, then keep your fingers crossed for the draw! The raffle prizes will be drawn post marathon which is April 26th  :)

The whopper prizes up for grabs are:
- A copy of award-winning 'H is for Hawk' signed by author, Helen MacDonald
- 'Wimbledon: Visions of the Championships' coffee table book, signed by Tim Henman
- Sanyo Digital Camera - 14 Megapixels / 3" LCD Monitor / 3X Optical Zoom Lens
- A Hawking Day for two with Rufus the Hawk and friends
- A copy of the Private Eye Annual 2014, signed by Ian Hislop
- Tabtronics Tablet - QuadCore KitKat
- River Cottage 'Hugh's Three Good Things' Recipe Book, signed by Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall

If you have any questions about the Rufus Raffle and for terms and conditions, please contact Imogen on info@avianenvironmental.co.uk. We would like to offer our heartfelt thanks to all individuals and companies who have generously donated prizes for the Rufus Raffle, with special thanks to The Wimbledon Foundation, Northampton Saints Rugby Club, River Cottage, Private Eye, Avian Environmental Consultants, RS Components and Jonathan Cape.

I am so honoured to be raising money for such an incredible charity, as I really believe that every single child deserves the very best start in life and chance to fulfil their potential, and although I find it heartbreaking that so many children are not brought into the world welcomed by this, I am so proud to be running the London Marathon 2015 to help raise funds for Barnardo's who remember the forgotten, and fight for the UK's most vulnerable children, supporting the children who need it most.

Barnardo's works directly with over 200,000 children, young people and their families every year, and run over 900 vital services across the UK from counselling for children who have been abused, to fostering and adoption services and disability inclusion groups. All the funds raised will go directly to support the invaluable work of Barnardo's.
