Story
Last year in the lead up to Christmas, Marc and I tested positive for COVID-19. Marc, who was healthy and had turned 60 that year, was admitted to hospital after experiencing severe symptoms at home.
He suffered a heart attack in the ambulance on the way to the hospital, brought on by the physical stress of fighting the virus, and was placed on a ventilator in the ICU ward.
He spent two weeks fighting for his life and was finally able to come off the ventilator and move to a recovery ward. We spoke everyday and I was hopeful that he was coming home.
Then as the new year began, the hospital called me and told me that things were not looking good. I was able to go and visit him and we spent most of New Years Day together. A day that I now cherish.
Marc sadly passed away on 4th January 2021.
It has been a huge shock to everyone that knew him and I know that he will be deeply missed by everyone.
During the summer, Marc was inspired by Captain Tom Moore’s story, raising over £30million for NHS charities.
As an alternative to flowers, I welcome donations to The Captain Tom Foundation. The beneficiaries of this foundation include NHS hospices and the Royal British Legion, which have both been particularly important to Marc.
Thank you to all family and friends of Marc for your support.
Love and best wishes from Liz
“I dreamed last night you held my hand, but woke and you weren’t there.
And as the teardrops filled my eyes, your presence filled the air.
I tried again to reach for you, but found you too far away.
So I began to cry again, waiting for the day.
When I see you once again, I’ll know just what to do.
I’ll gently grab you by the hand, and make my dreams come true”
