Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

UPDATE 03/05/11: We did it!!!! Sorry it's taken so long but I just wanted to say a massive thankyou to all of you. We were spurred on greatly by all the good luck wishes and incredible support. I managed to complete the London Marathon in 4.40 - it was an amazing, inspiring, painful and hot experience!!! All 3 of us got round ok with Dan and Billy considerably quicker than me! I discovered that I have inherited at least some of my Dad's trademark attitude and determination which helped me to find a sprint finish (of sorts) to pass a man wearing a full on Rhino suit! All in all it was a fantastic day to remember my Dad by.

We have raised a phenomenal amount of money for Leukaemia CARE (over £8000 inc gift aid so far) and we truly could not have done it without your amazing generosity. Thanks again : UPDATE 03/05/11

As some of you will be aware, my Dad, Ralph Mascarenhas, died suddenly on the 11th August 2008. This was just 5 weeks after the birth of his first grandchildren (my twin boys rafa & felix) and less than 48 hours after he had attended my brother Rayson's wedding. Only 2 months before he had been diagnosed with a very rare and aggressive form of leukaemia. He demonstrated his trademark positive attitude throughout the brief illness and the attempted treatment which was unfortunately unsuccessful. Ever since then I have been planning to raise money for a Leukaemia charity in his memory. Reuben, my other brother also felt that he would like to do the same by setting himself a personal but different challenge (see below).

It has taken me this long because the last 2 years have mainly been spent surviving the sleep deprivation associated with bringing up our twins! As they're now sleeping better (it's all relative!) I am excited to be running the 2011 London Marathon with 2 great friends, Dan & Billy. Furthermore, my brother Reuben is also taking on an incredible feat of endurance of his own on the 16th December 2010 by rowing a marathon distance non stop on an rowing machine!

**UPDATE 23/02/2011** I can confirm that Reuben completed his extraordinary rowing marathon on the 16th December 2010 in a time of 3hrs 31mins 48.4s!!!(see photos). Massive congratulations to him and to all those who have sponsored him. The company he works for (Reckitt Benckiser) have also donated a £250 cheque to the cause in recognition of Reuben's efforts which has pushed us within touching distance of the £5k target (£4929 at the time of writing).**UPDATE 23/02/2011**

This is all in aid of a small charity called Leukaemia CARE that gives support to patients and families who have been impacted by this disease. For that reason every donation, whatever the size, really does make a difference. We are immensely grateful for your generosity in helping us to achieve our ambitious target of £5k.
