Story

Sadly, on the 25th of March 2020 Antony Humphries passed away at 40 years of age. Antony had an enormous heart and character that will be remembered by everyone that knew him.

In 2018, Antony was diagnosed with ADHD. Antony really struggled with his diagnosis. It made him feel like he was different and he felt hopeless at times. Unknown to him, it was all his differences and his uniqueness that is so special to us.

ADHD affects a person’s relationships not only romantic ones; family and friends. It can affect your career and your own perception of yourself. Without support or help it can be an awful experience for those dealing with a diagnosis of ADHD.

ADHD can have many positive influences on a person if these are highlighted with support. People with ADHD should not suffer in silence but unfortunately can be the case for many people. The waiting times for assessments can be up to 2 years and for someone with undiagnosed ADHD can be dangerous. It can make someone feel extremely helpless and often suicidal without treatment.

As a family, we have chosen ADHD Foundation as it is active in influencing policy and provision in the UK for those with ADHD. The Charity also educates health care professionals, educators and people of the workplace on ADHD and how to support those people. The charity offers support for parents/carers and families and directly to those with ADHD whether that be children or adults.

Some of Antony’s words to his daughter after his diagnosis:

“Year upon year I got things wrong, I didn’t know what was causing it.

I know what I got now and I ain't ashamed, not now it's out in the open and it's been explained.

My brain works faster than the average one, it thinks by the dozen while most think by the singular one.”
