Great Birmingham 10k 2020 · 31 May 2020 ·

Every day in the UK, another 240 people wake up to the catastrophic impact of a stroke. The Stroke Association is the only charity in the UK providing lifelong support for all stroke survivors and their families.

Story

As husband and wife we are running the Great Birmingham 10k in memory of Deshi Ruprai, Pavan's paternal grandma.

In 2012 Deshi suffered a stroke which left her with left side paralysis. This was a scary time for all those close to Deshi but the Stroke Association provided a lot of support to us all. We created a bond with staff at our local Stroke Centre and they are still supportive of our efforts to keep Deshi's memory alive.

Deshi did not let her stroke define her, she made progress every day for the next three years. From being able to apply her lipstick again to being able to stand for a few minutes. Every moment we had with her, we treasured.

When Deshi passed away in 2015 our lives were turned upside down, but as a family we were fortunate to have an extra three years with Deshi.

Please support us in supporting a life changing charity that will fund research and support to all those affected by stroke. To read more on the work that the Stroke Association does, please visit www.stroke.org.uk.

Lots of love from Pav and Pavan x
