Story
Hi everyone and thank you for visiting my fundraising page! Basically having spent a good year or so relaxing, nursing injuries and generally living up Durham life I decided it was time to get fit… so why not run the London Marathon? I have been training since early October and it has been an epic challenge so far: I seem to spend my whole life in my adidas shorts and now-rather-disgusting (refer to photo) running trainers, racing through every inch of Durham - knocking over the odd pedestrian or two; being chased by dogs and crawling through bramble bushes! I have so far completed one half marathon (over the Cleveland way – plenty of uphill), and am hoping to do a couple more before the big day!
The charity I am running for, SENSE, is an amazing charity which works with deafblind children and adults in the UK. At University last year I spent some time studying sign language and then spent a summer in Thailand, where, amongst other things I learnt a bit of Thai sign language to assist in teaching a young Karen village boy, Sirichai ; although he didn’t know this was his name, being illiterate and not knowing any sign language. The challenges he faced in understanding the world around him are mirrored by deafblind people in the UK every day and SENSE does a fantastic job of supporting them and helping them to communicate and interact. Please, please, please donate - every penny is hugely appreciated!
Thank you sooo much, India xxxxxxxxx
