Story
On the evening of the 28th April 2017, 40 lucky students from my school, including me, are taking part in a Year 9 sponsored sleep-out in order to raise money for Emmaus. Emmaus is an international charity which supports homeless people (companions), by helping them to become self-reliant through working and living together. In our tutorials these past few months, we have been learning about the problems facing homeless people living rough out on the streets.
By sleeping out in the open air around the school site, we will be able to simulate living out on the streets at night and grasp the hardships that homeless people face daily. During the night, members of Emmaus Cambridge will offer support, advice, food, drink and blankets and share their stories with us, as they do to people sleeping rough around Cambridge. Competitive games will also be played in order to earn "money", blankets, cardboard etc. to let us experience using only the bare minimum.
