We fund Dhamma projects in India to help wisdom & compassion spread in India

Story

Thank you for visiting the Indian Dhamma Trust Fundraising page and choosing to donate .  We’re aiming to raise money from the Triratna community world-wide to support some of our most important Dhamma work in India: the men’s and women’s Ordination Teams, plus the Indian Mitra Convenors.

There are millions of Buddhist men and women in India who have little knowledge of what Buddhism is or how to practice it. They are desperate to find genuine and effective Dhamma teachers and practice communities,  hungry for the Dharma, and its potential for spiritual transformation and social uplift.

Since 1978 Triratna has trained hundreds of such men and women in the Dhamma to the point of Ordination and right now there are currently over 1600 Indian Mitras who are in training for Ordination who need ongoing support to prepare them to join the Indian Order.

They are desperate for effective Kalyana Mitrata. Unfortunately there are not the resources or Preceptors to meet their need.  For example  - The women’s wing has at its core 4 Private preceptors who support more than 800 women.

The Public Preceptors and members of the Men and Women’s ordination teams rely on financial support from the India Dhamma Trust and the movement to carry out their work.

Our main aim is to support Core teams and other Indian Order members to expand the capacity of Ordination training in India, enabling them to help grow the ordination teams so they can respond to the hundreds of people who are approaching ordination, or who are ready to teach the Dhamma, but are held back through lack of resources and support.

We are also helping to support the flow of effective Kalyana Mitrata and to develop and strengthen the structures of the Order. A greater emphasis has been and will continue to be put on Order training and Kalyana Mitrata training retreats.

Thanks to the success of 'The Self Reliant India' campaign, fundraising initiatives have begun in India. Because of the generosity of Order members in the West we are now supporting the Indian Order develop their own fundraising capabilities.  Enabling them in time to become ‘Self reliant, not only financially but as an Indian Order.

But our brothers and sisters in India still continue to need our help to enable them to bring about the historic revival of Buddhism in the land of the Buddha’s birth.

A short summary of what we’re aiming to fund:

The Triratna Women's Ordination Team is responsible for training Women for Ordination. There are more than 800 women who have asked for Ordination in India, they are spread all across the sub-continent, whilst being concentrated in Maharastra.  In addition to this they provide an important source of leadership within the Order for further training of Order Members, leading festivals and retreats, Kalyana Mitrata and conflict resolution, out-reach Dhamma work.    Expenses include support for four women Order Members (though they would like to expand this), office and accommodation expenses, also travel : because of the inability of women to travel long distances to go on retreat there is a greater need for team members to travel to various states.

The Men's Ordination Team is responsible for training men for Ordination (approximately 1000 men from all over India). In addition to this they too provide an important source of leadership within the Order and Movement, further training of Order Members, leading festivals and retreats, Kalyana Mitrata and conflict resolution and a lot of out-reach Dhamma work.

These teams include leadership and guidance from Subhuti, Suvajra, Srimala, and Karunamaya.

The Indian Mitra Convenors.  The Mitra system in India consists of some 7000 people, men and women.  The overall IndianMitra convenor leads weekends for Mitras and meetings for Mitra Convenors, keeps records on Mitras, and works to oversee the system as a whole, including travel..
