Walk the Wight with Mountbatten 2019 · 12 May 2019 ·

Mountbatten is the Isle of Wight's only hospice and is known for innovation across the UK and beyond. We provide expert medical, nursing and domiciliary end of life care and bereavement support to people in their own homes, including care homes, in our Newport building and in the local hospital.

Story

This year the IOW Pearl have put together a team of 5 Ladies
who will be taking on the epic challenge to walk the entire length of the Isle of Wight a total of 26.5 miles from Bembridge to the Needles. Taking part are Helen Woodford, Rossanne Burfoot, Charley McAllister, Cassie Satchell and Mariana Scullion.

Mike was Helen’s Brother in-law, who lived for his family
and his farm, he sadly passed away suddenly at the Earl Mountbatten Hospice in May 2018 surrounded by his family, Mike was diagnosed with terminal Liver Cancer that had rapidly spread, Mike was given 2 years ,so Mike and His wife (Sue Bradley) started to make a bucket list of things they wanted to do together in the time they had left, Mike’s daughter (Emily Bradley-Stathers) moved her wedding forward so her dad could walk her down her aisle.

Sadly, this wasn’t to be Mike passed away 9 days after he
was diagnosed, Emily went ahead with the wedding as she had promised her dad, unbeknown to his family Mike had asked Emily Grandad (Eddy Woodford) to walk Emily down the aisle if he wasn’t here, of course Eddy agreed but never thought he would have to walk his Granddaughter down the aisle, Mike would have been so proud.

Since Mike has passed away another Grandson has arrived
Jacob Michael and will shortly be followed by another! Mike loved teaching his first Grandson Jax all about the animals on the farm and farm life and Jax can’t wait to tell his little cousins all about his Grandad Mike.

The care and kindness that Mike received from all the staff during his short time at the hospice was truly amazing and the support the hospice gave Sue, Emily and Robert during and after this difficult time was incredible, Mike’s family can not thank the hospice enough.

Us Pearlie Girls aim to raise as much money as possible for
this amazing hospice, we may have feet of lead and be broken from the waist down as we come over the finishing line, but we will do it proudly “In Memory of Mike”
