Story

Wendy Stringle (formerly Shillinglaw) was Chickenshed's longest serving member of staff, who suddenly passed away after only very recently retiring.
Wendy was passionate about the work of Chickenshed and believed strongly in its message, its methodology, history, and future.
Wendy had worked for many years in administration and as personal
assistant to the founders and executives of the company, helping to build and
invest in the volunteer structures and charity’s organisational structure.
Wendy’s relationship with Chickenshed began as a volunteer, and following her
retirement she had planned to return to this role - to continue to champion the
archiving project for this important and pioneering inclusive theatre company.
Wendy had been involved as a Performer, Mother, Wife, Grandmother, Friend, and
all round member of the Chickenshed community. She will be missed by so many
and would want the work at Chickenshed to continue and thrive, for so many
others to benefit from a company that she deeply believed in.

On 7th July 2019 at Chickenshed Southgate, a celebration was held for Wendy to mark her retirement from the company. During this event at which family and friends spoke and reminisced over Wendy's many years of contributions to the company, she sadly and very suddenly was taken ill and passed away. In the final moments before she died there was so much love, smiling and laughter surrounding Wendy and the celebration of her life.

All who knew Wendy have been left shocked and stunned by her passing, but the tragic circumstances has led to many reflecting on the capacity of love that Wendy generated.... and how present this was during these moments.

Wendy had  just begun to plan for a special legacy project to mark Chickenshed's 50th anniversary in a few years time. She had named it '50 Stories for 50 Years' and had just started to plan. The organisation will be continuing the project in Wendy's memory, and any money donated will go towards this.
