I am taking on one of the hardest fitness tests run by youth charity The Polar Academy. I will be joining this year’s 2 expedition teams hauling tyres on the West Sands beach at St Andrews for 6 hours through sand and the sea, in preparation for their winter expedition in the Arctic.
The Polar Academy supports children who are struggling in life. Some are working through trauma, mental health concerns, or a severe lack of confidence, while also trying to navigate school, relationships and exams at a crucial time in their lives. Some of the children have attempted or considered suicide as they can see no positive life path ahead.
The Polar Academy trains them for 1 year to get them fit enough and to develop enough confidence and life skills to undertake a 10 day sledge hauling expedition in East Greenland. The children are completely transformed throughout this process and become role models in their schools and communities – going on to positive destinations afterwards.
I wholeheartedly support the work this charity is doing investing in young people when they really need it most. I would be very grateful if you can support me with a donation to get me though this challenge as I try to match the determination and fitness levels of these incredible young people.
