Santa Fun Run - Greenwich Park · 6 December 2009 ·

The National Literacy Trust aims to create a society in which everyone has the reading, writing, speaking and listening skills that they need to fulfil their own and, ultimately, the nation’s potential.

Story

I'm running 5 hilarious kilometres in a Santa suit this Sunday 6 December in Greenwich Park, for the National Literacy Trust (NLT).  I'll be doing this because international research shows that, regardless of their social or economic background, children who read for pleasure do better at school and have better life chances than those who don't. Also I like the idea of dressing as Santa.

I work for an initiative of the NLT that gives children throughout the UK the chance to choose and keep free books at events that promote the fun of reading. Every year, more than 20,000 children take part in one of our projects. We only work in areas of disadvantage, so for many of them, the books they choose may be the only books they will ever own. We want everyone to reach their full potential, and anything you can manage to donate (even if it's just a few tenners - only joking, a pound a kilo is super) will make a difference. Thanks! You're great!
