I WALK FOR LAURA.........
As you probably know, my daughter Laura suffers from a rare and progressive strain of Muscular Dystrophy.
Its over two years since I completed a trek across the Moroccan Sahara raising a fair amount of money for Muscular Dystrophy Campaign.
Since then, sadly, Laura's condition has deteriorated with the considerable progression of Muscular Dystrophy through her body. Laura's spine and lungs are now greatly affected and her life is more difficult with continued poor health.
Though fundraising across the country continues and research moves forward, a cure and treatment is still to be found for Muscular Dystrophy muscle diseases.
I decided it is time to join another challenge enabling me to initiate another programme of fundraising for Muscular Dystrophy Campaign.
I have signed for a Trek with Across The Divide ( www.acrossthedivide.com ) to go to the remote northern region of Sapa in Vietnam. We will walk mountain trails through villages, farmland and jungle walking 75kms over 5 days. The weather can be varied and we are to expect sun, rain, cold and heat! We will sleep some nights in tents and some nights on the floors of village homes.
Living in Suffolk my specific challenge may well be the mountain climbs! I am not a lover (to put it mildly) of humidity either, nor am I keen on sharing accomodation! So my comfort zone will be seriously challenged. Basic toilet facilities and washing in waterfalls will be the least of my discomforts.
The future of Laura and all other Muscular Dystrophy sufferers depends on money being raised for research into the disease and for the care and support of sufferers. There are simply not enough resources to make a difference. We have to do more and find more money to go towards the essential work that has to be done to beat this terrible disease.
I watch muscular dystrophy slowly take over Laura's body and it is for this reason that I am asking you - again probably, to please please, donate towards my challenge.
I shall, as ever, walk every step for Laura. I will try to be as brave in the face of adversity as Laura is each day of her life with the steps she takes.
Thank you all so much for all the support you give to Laura and I.
