As many of you know, sadly Trudy Wade-West (Katie's mother and Izzy's Grandmother known to us as 'Oma') suddenly passed away in January this year. For the last few years of her life, she suffered with the devastating and frustrating symptoms of Motor Neurone Disease. This is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that attacks the upper and lower neurones of the body. Degeneration of the neurones leads to weakness and wasting of muscles, causing increasing loss of mobility in the limbs, and difficulties with speech, swallowing and breathing.
The Motor Neurone Disease Association were extremely helpful to her and their support helped to make the last few years of her life a little easier. In some ways, Oma was lucky that motor neurone disease affected her only in the later stages of her life, but thousands of people are affected by the disease at a much younger age. We would really like to raise as much money as we can for the MNDA, so that they can support MNDA sufferers. Anything we raise will be put into the Trudy Wade-West trust in her memory.
The British 10K London Run takes place on July 11th and is an exciting event, with the route passing many of London's well known landmarks. We are very inexperienced runners (Katie never even owned a pair of running shoes until eight weeks ago!), so if you are a Paula Radcliffe or a Haile Gebrselaisse, our run will be just a warm up for you. For us, however, running 10K is a big deal and 10km seems a huge distance at this point in our training. We have been training hard for the past few weeks and have sadly discovered that running doesn't exactly come naturally to us, so we hope that you can support us so that all our hard work is worth it!
So please, please dig deep and donate now- knowing that we have your support will certainly make training a lot more bearable!
Thanks so much for your support.
