Thanks for taking the time to visit our JBA Great North Run page. We are raising money for RedR: an international charity which improves disaster relief through training and recruiting relief workers worldwide. Their work is particularly important at times like now, when thousands are in desperate need in East Africa (see below). Please sponsor us and help make a difference! Any encouragement for our challenge ahead would also be appreciated!
Supporting the humanitarian community
Requests for training are already coming in thick and fast. Over the next three months, RedR expert trainers will deliver technical sessions for aid workers from UNHCR, Oxfam, CARE, the Red Cross and the Norwegian Refugee Council. But we need to do more.
RedR’s Chief Executive, Martin McCann, said: “The scale of the crisis in East Africa cannot be underestimated. This is the worst food-related situation to hit the region in many, many years. Millions are already at risk. And, although we will not solve these myriad challenges overnight, the window for immediate response is short. The more aid workers we can train in essential and technical skills today, the more lives we can save in the months and years to come. We must act now.”
Your help is vital to save more lives in East Africa. Please give what you can.
Just £25 could pay for an expert answer to one technical field query through our Technical Support Service. Whether it’s support with managing shelter, the provision of vital water and sanitation or dealing with security concerns, rapid, on-the-spot advice helps save lives.
Or, £6000 could pay for 20+ aid workers operating in the region to attend a week-long, practical training course delivered by experienced, expert humanitarians. Life-saving skills learnt in just a few days help ensure aid is delivered efficiently, effectively, safely and reliably, saving more lives.
