Story

Welcome to our page!

We have worked out how many ascents of our stairs at home it would take for us to "climb Everest" and are taking on the challenge over 14 days as a team!

We will be supporting the charity Student Action for Refugees (STAR) which campaigns to increase access to higher education for refugees - a cause we thought was both relevant and important to us as students.

Currently, only 1% of refugee youth have access to university - a staggering statistic.

The money we raise from this challenge will go directly towards STAR's national equal access campaign which you can read about here:

http://www.star-network.org.uk/index.php/campaigns/equal_access

STAR groups across the nation have pressured universities into providing refugee scholarships, including the University of Birmingham which has one such place available, and was filled this year for the first time. This is an outstanding achievement, but - being inspired by other universities such as Bristol which offer 10 places - we want to strive for more!

Your contribution, no matter how small, will go a long way -- so donate now to join our fight for justice!

About the charity

STAR is the national network of students building a society where refugees are welcomed. Working together we volunteer and work directly with refugees, campaign for policy change and equal access to university for refugees, and learn about refugees and asylum.
