The JTYAF supports young people from a wide range of youth organisations providing them with scholarships and bursaries to support their personal development and the pursuit of the ambitions. Recipients of the Charity's Young Achievers Awards are selected for their demonstration of the Foundation's key values: courage, determination, unselfishness and cheerfulness in adversity.
The John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation honours the life of Lt John 'JT' Thornton RM, from Ferndown, Dorset, who was tragically killed in Southern Afghanistan on 30th March 2008.
As part of the Junior Leaders Course, I will be raising money for the JTYAF. John Thornton was an Air Cadet before joining the Royal Marines and was top student on his Junior Leaders Course.
Not for the faint-hearted, the Junior Leaders Course is physically demanding and requires real commitment and determination. The course, which runs from September to Easter, involves nine weekend training camps and an assessment week.
