There's no denying it: mental health is a taboo subject.
Depression, anxiety, stress, anger are far less likely topics to crop up general chit-chat than a sore throat or a bad back. However, given that 1 in 4 of us will experience some kind of mental health issue in the next 12 months, why is this the case?
Bristol Mind aims to promote a positive view of mental health and
provide services that are accessible, relevant and empowering to the
people using them. Their services aim to contribute to mental and
emotional wellbeing and to reduce stigma and discrimination.
I've decided to support this important charity by going for a ride on my bicycle...
For the past 5 years it's been a dream of mine to cycle a JOGLE: John o'Groats to Land's End.
Finally, after years of making excuses, I've decided to take the bull by the horns (or rather the bike by the handlebars), and taken the plunge. My route will cover around 1000 miles, with over 42,000 feet of climbing thrown in for good measure. To make matters worse, I've decided that I will do this completely on my own (no-one to carry my kit, fix my bike, or generally keep me company).
Finally, just to make things REALLY interesting, I've given myself an 8 day time limit to complete the trip.
What. Am. I.Thinking.
My journey begins on Sunday 20th September, and (after a pit stop in
Bristol on Friday 25th), I'll hopefully reach the finish line on Sunday
27th September.
In order to keep me going, I really want YOU to donate whatever you can to Bristol Mind. I can promise that every penny donated will help keep me pedalling when all I'll want to do is stop.
Thanks in advance for your support.
Ben
