Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. ☺️

Since 2003 I've suffered with intense migraines, which were controlled with medication. From 2012 the headaches became progressively worse and in 2014 something changed. I would go to work and come home needing to sleep, but medics couldn't find anything so it was labelled as stress.

My mum was concerned about my eyes as they watered constantly, were swollen and they were so tired - everything I looked at was a blur. Eye examinations showed up nothing, so I was advised eye drops and I continued with life.

I was diagnosed with having a large (size of an egg) brain tumour in June 2016. It was removed with emergency surgery, found to be benign and the long term prognosis is very good. My tumour had been slow growing and the unbearable headaches, being unable to see (I voluntarily stopped driving at the end of 2015) then walk, the blackouts and becoming incontinent were all down to it.

Whilst recuperating I've been looking into the causes of brain tumours and came across The Brain Tumour Charity. I am stunned by the lack of funding and moved to tears by some of the stories and experiences of brain tumour sufferers and their families. Sadly brain tumours are often misdiagnosed and/or diagnosed too late.

I feel lucky to be here and want to support brain tumour research and the families of brain tumour sufferers through The Brain Tumour Charity because, compared to others, my experience has been unbelievably positive - barring the initial misdiagnosis.

I am working with my family and a few amazing friends to fund raise. So far we have done twilight walks in Windsor and Warwick, and a black tie charity dinner - and we're not done. It's to stamp out brain tumours, please come along and stamp with me.

We've set up the Brain Tumour Super Troopers, which sits within the Brain Tumour Charity, and all our funds will be donated through the group. It means we get to decide exactly where the money goes: on funds dedicated to raising the symptoms of brain tumours with medics, doctors, opticians and ophthalmologists, and supporting people with brain tumours and their families through counselling, respite and practical support.

You can keep up to date with what we're doing on this page. As well as further twilight walks in 2017 we've planned a sky dive for 2018 - a big thank you to Kameron, Aneesh, Bob, Nigel, Jaideep, NIn and Manjit for agreeing to join me as I'm terrified of heights! Others are welcome to join us, either for the dive itself or the BBQ we'll be having to celebrate!

We are in challenging times financially but this is now a cause very close to my heart, dear friends every penny will help and be appreciated.

Love, Jatinder
