The Brain and Spine Foundation transforms the daily reality of people affected by any neurological condition, anywhere in the UK, through frontline professional services, innovative social research, and bold campaigning for change.

Story

Hi guys, thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I have been lucky enough to be awarded a fundraising place in the London Marathon and aim to raise £2,000 for the fantastic Brain & Spine Foundation.

To put it simply, I could not be more grateful, excited and humbled to be offered the opportunity to raise valuable funds for the work the charity do. To be effected by a brain or spinal condition has severe impacts on every aspect of one's life and the charity provides such a high level of support, information and care to those in need.

About the charity:
There are 350 different conditions of the brain and spine and together they affect more than 10 million people in the UK. These conditions affect both children and adults and in many cases have long-term impacts without the prospect of a cure. Neurological conditions and associated treatments are often complex and poorly understood by those affected and their families.

The Brain and Spine Foundation exists to provide this information and to be there during diagnosis, treatments and in the longer term, to answer questions and provide support throughout a patient's journey. They are the only UK wide charity providing support on the full range of neurological conditions.

The charity receives no government funding and is entirely reliant on voluntary donations.

A recent report (The Invisible Patients: Revealing the state of neurology services) has prompted the following response from Neurological Alliance's Chief Executive Arlene Wilkie (which sums up my feelings far more eloquently than I can):

“For too long, people living with neurological conditions have been the ‘invisible patients’, often marginalised by a system that doesn’t understand their conditions or their needs. This has to change… It is time for the health and care system to open its eyes to the needs of the millions of people who live with these complex and challenging conditions. They must be invisible no longer.”

This is a charity that means a great deal to me and I would absolutely love any support you guys have to offer both in the run up to the event and on the day itself. Every penny counts towards the £2,000 target, which with your help we can smash.

As previously mentioned the charity receives absolutely no government funding and is entirely reliant on voluntary donations. So please help me make a difference to the lives of those suffering from the effects brain and spinal conditions.

Huge love and thanks for your support over the past year, and thanks in advance for your support in the run up to the marathon!
