Royal Parks Half Marathon 2023 · 8 October 2023 ·
Thank you for taking the time to visit my page.
I'm running a half marathon for the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital on the 8th October 2023.
Around 5 years ago I had a discomfort in my left wrist and over time the movement gradually reduced. After going to the doctors I was then sent to my local hospital. After a few X-rays and MRI scans I was then transferred over to the Royal National Orthopaedic hospital. After my first appointment the problem was found. A lump was located inbetween my ulnar and radius. Once this lump was picked up I was sent for a biopsy that come back as inconclusive. Further scans and tests were done until the decision was to extract the lump from my arm. I had my first surgery and the lump was removed and sent off for testing.
In 2021 I was diagnosed with a mixed spiral cell tumour, also known as a sarcoma in my wrist to which I was now under the cancer ward. I had to then have another surgery to remove the bedding and tissue in my wrist. The type that I had, had never been seen before and I was kept under close surveillance by my surgeon. There was a lot of uncertainty of what the outcome would be and how badly I would be effected. With the amazing work, speed and care from this hospital, they saved my arm and potentially my life. For that, I will be forever grateful.
I have now gone from being monitored closely, to once every 6 months, to after my next visit, being monitored once a year for the next 10 years. I undergo regular chest X-Rays to make sure that the tumour has not spread. The X-rays and appointments are very costly.
I would like to raise as much money to help more people like me that are looked after by this fantastic hospital. The money will go towards research, rehabilitation and equipment to help those suffering with cancer be as comfortable as possible. I would also like to use my story as an example to anyone that thinks "something isn't right" to go and get it checked. This check up can literally save your life. I am forever grateful and thankful for this place and this will be the first charity event of many I will be participating in.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story.
