Bupa Great South Run 2009 · 25 October 2009 ·

Sport has tremendous physical, psychological and social benefits for the participants, particularly young people. WheelPower provides and promotes opportunities for thousands of children and young adults with disabilities to participate in recreational and competitive wheelchair sport and improve their quality of life.

Story

Hi Everyone,

Believe it or not, I'm doing something for charity. The BUPA great south run is a 10 mile race along the south coast, starting in portsmouth. Having recently attempted to run home from work (6 miles), I can tell you that this is not going to be easy.

I'm trying to raise money for a charity called WheelPower,

WheelPower is the national charity for wheelchair sport, providing equipment, facilities and opportunities which enable disabled people to play sport and lead healthy active lives.

Sports wheelchairs come in all shapes and sizes; streamlined, lightweight for racing; ones that can turn on a sixpence for basketball; and robust ‘tanks’ for rugby. Unfortunately such pieces of equipment are prohibitively expensive. WheelPower aims to remove this barrier and provide sports wheelchairs to those that need them.

I’m trying to raise as much as possible so every pound you donate really does make a difference. Please dig deep and sponsor online – it only takes two secs, it's easy and totally secure.

Gift Aid it!

If you are a UK taxpayer, please remember to tick the Gift Aid box when donating so that an extra 25%, plus a 3% supplement, can be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Many thanks for your support
