Meningitis is deadly; killing and seriously disabling in hours. Small children and young adults are high risk, but all ages can be affected. Globally 1,000 people die daily. We fundraise to invest in research, campaign for vaccines, provide symptom information and support those already affected.

Story

Hello and welcome to my Just Giving page!

Alongside the Meningitis Research Foundation, I and my fellow students from the University of Warwick are raising funds and awerness to fight a disease that affects nine people every day in the UK alone. To help, all you have to do is Donate Now.

As both a student (we’re the second most likely group likely to contract Meningitis, after children under the age of 2) and someone whose family has been directly affected by the disease, supporting the Meningitis Research Foundation is an important issue to me. Although most people in the UK receive vaccinations at an early age to prevent the onset of Meningitis, the disease exists in several different forms which make complete immunity virtually impossible. Continuous research, therefore, is an absolute necessity in order to recognise and treat its symptoms as well as reduce the number of those who face the often tragic consequences of this fatal disease.

Through a variety of public events and fundraisers throughout the country, we aim to raise awareness and demonstrate our support for those who spend every day trying to defeat the devastation caused by Meningitis. Our determination alone, however, will not be enough to make such an important impact on those affected by the disease. For that to happen, we need your support in reaching (and perhaps even exceeding!) our targets of £1,250. Every penny you donate will go directly to the Meningitis Research Foundation.

A bit about me:

When my Dad was in his twenties he contracted a life-threatening form of Meningitis. Fortunately, after intensive treatment he was able to make a full recovery. Had it not been for the medical innovations of the day, however, it's safe to say I wouldn't be here right now! Please help out to give other families like mine the chance of a brighter future.

I’m 19 years old, and I’m currently in my second year of studying French and History at the University of Warwick. I come from the Wirral, in Merseyside, where I engaged with various forms of volunteer work from the age of 10 right up until I left for university. Whilst at school I took part in the V Volunteering scheme, for which I have been logged and certificated for over 100 hours of volunteer work at a local British Red Cross charity shop after school hours.

Most of my volunteering, however, was conducted during my 8 years of membership as both a Sea and later Marine Cadet with the SCC Corps. During this time, I helped to raise funds for various charities including Help for Heroes, The Royal British Legion, the Royal Marines Association, and the King George’s Fund for sailors, as well as supporting my own cadet unit on “flag” days.
