Lewy body dementia is the second most common cause of age-related dementia, affecting around 130,000 people in the UK. We raise awareness of the disease, provide information to patients and carers, and fund research so that in future it can be more easily diagnosed and treated.

Story

Dear Friends

I’m inspired to be writing to you in this my year of giving back and of challenging myself.

This year I will test myself and raise funds for the Lewy Body Society in what is now a two year long project.

I will undertake the following challenges in 2020 & 2021 (because of Covid19 now fundraising in 2021 also)

The Great Manchester Activity Challenge.  Starting on 10 August and finishing on 6 September (the day the event was scheduled to take place), the challenge is to complete a minimum of 15 activities (walk, jog or run) of any distance over the 28 days

1) Loose two stone in weight which I gained during my mums illness.

2) Manchester 10k - I plan to take part in several running events including my 5th Manchester 10k.

3) Cake Sales

4) Raffles

I’ll keep you all updated with my progress and thank you for your support.

Lewy Body Dementia is a common type of Dementia, estimated to currently affect over 100,000 in the U.K. However, it still has a tendency to be misdiagnosed for other types of dementia, such as Alzheimer's.

There is presently no cure; My dad Joseph Cannon (Joe) lost his battle again LBD on the 21st January 2010 so this year will be his 10th anniversary.  In July 2019 I lost my mum to fibrosis of the lungs.  I know that because of the impact my dads experience had on her she would want me to raise awareness and funds for the society. I had a foot problem which means I am starting from the beginning again, not that I could have been called a runner, thinking of my dad and the people who are living with LBD today is what gave me and continues to give me the courage to finish a race.

The charity does not have a bricks and mortar office, it has a service office which takes its phone calls and post, overheads are kept to an absolute minimum, your donations will be used to raise awareness and fund vital research into the disease.

Thanks for supporting me and thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
