Brighton Marathon 2013 · 14 April 2013 ·

Martlets is a charity that cares for people living through a terminal illness in and around Brighton and Hove. Our care is only free thanks to the generosity of local people. Every donation you make will help us change lives.

Story

Weather: well at least won't have to worry about heatstroke! Got 8 hours uninterrupted sleep which is good. Woke up late though so no coffee. Have chaffed big toe from wearing new shoes yesterday (doh!). Butteflies in my tummy. On our way to start line. Wish me luck. Jacq xx

Thank-you Sophie, Orla, Emmah, Kathryn, Sarah, Katie, Lindsey, Lucy, Claire and Nikki for sponsoring me! Getting close to the 40% target for fundraising. But only four days until race day! Jacq xx

17 mile run today - I realize this is not recommended in the training manual so close to race day but felt good to do it. Hope I can rest, carb up, consume vast amount of fluids and run 26 miles on day.

Set my alarm for 3:30am, had bowl of porridge and juice, back to bed until 5:15am, then off for 15 mile run back before Rich goes to work. Probably not recommended in the marathon training manual! Been working 6 days in a row so fit training in when I can. :-)

Did a 13 mile run again, fifteen minutes quicker than last week (but less windy). Nice to run from work so don't have to run back the same way I came. Really need to invest in some proper running gear! I've only been running about fifteen years in regular clothes.

I ran the equivalent of a half-marathon yesterday. Hard going on the way back with cold wind! Still a ways to go before I'm ready for 26 miles :-)

Wow, what a perfect day for a morning run! Ran 10.6 miles today along coast (before work) but inadvertenly ran alongside Brighton half-marathon participants. ;-)

Hello everybody! Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. #

I'm raising money for Martlets hospice because after taking a Death and Dying course with the Open University, it was brought to my attention the amazing and invaluable work that hospices provide to those that have reached the end of their life. Providing physical pain relief is obviously essential but they also provide much needed emotional support.

In addition, a old colleague of mine, an amazing (and much too young) woman called Stella Kasta, passed away after a long battle with cancer last autumn and I know the Martlets provided Stella and her family with wonderful care.

# I've done two half-marathons, a 10k and the Beachy Head marathon. I'm not a fast runner but am looking forward to the opportunity to run a marathon on my home turf. Here's hoping it's not too windy! My biggest challenge (other than reaching my fundraising target) will be fitting in runs while looking after two small children!

The Martlets hospice need to raise 3 millions pounds each year to keep doing the wonderful work they do so please give generously.
